If you’re familiar with multi-day hiking in Europe, you’ve likely encountered the renowned “GR” footpaths. These extensive trails span premier walking terrain, predominantly found in countries like France, Spain, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. In Spain, the acronym “GR” stands for “gran recorridos,” meaning “great tours” in English, evoking the grandeur of these routes.
Spain’s first GR trail, the GR7, stretches over 1900 kilometres from Tarifa, the southernmost point of Spain, to the Pyrenees. Venturing through the heart of the Alpujarras early in its journey, the GR7 offers splendid opportunities for multi-day hikes spanning three to six days or more.
