Monachil is a charming village nestled in a fertile valley of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, just outside Granada. Sitting at 800 meters above sea level, it offers a picturesque escape with its traditional Andalusian architecture and stunning natural surroundings.

The Cahorros Trail, starting in Monachil, is a popular hiking path in the lower hills of Sierra Nevada National Park. The trail features a series of stairs, hanging bridges, and narrow passages through a gorge, alongside a cascading river that forms rock pools and caves. This scenic and adventurous trail is perfect for a family day out in the mountains, culminating in breathtaking views of the lush Monachil Valley.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We drive to the village of Monachil, situated in a fertile valley of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range at an elevation of 800 meters above sea level, just outside the city of Granada. The Cahorros Trail, a hiking path in the lower hills of Sierra Nevada National Park, begins in the village and follows the river up toward the entrance of a narrow gorge.

The trail transforms into a series of stairs, with sections requiring you to crawl under overhanging rocks and cross hanging bridges over a cascading river. This journey through the canyon reveals rock pools and caves, making it an adventurous Hike for the whole family.

After traversing the gorge, the return route takes a higher path that offers stunning views of the lush Monachil Valley. It’s a great escape from the city and a perfect family day out in the mountains!
